Relying On The Calculator

Do your kids rely on a calculator for solving simple, every-day mathematical problems such as adding up prices in a store, figuring out the tip at a restaurant, or determining a new balance in a savings account?

It may not just be the kids who are turning to technology instead of just doing the math in their heads. I see adults pull out cell phones all the time and use them to calculate restaurant tips as well as sale prices at stores.

Actually, I think it is so much faster to do the estimates in my head than it is to use a calculator even if it is part of the ubiquitous cell phone.

What do you think?
