Meal Time Family Time

I was reading What The World Eats in Time magazine the other day and it mentioned something about families in other cultures having “family time” during meals.

Does anyone else remember when that was the case in the United States as well? Now, people in the same household grab food (notice how that was phrased) at all different times or get food at the same time, but plop themselves in front of a television while eating and don’t even pay attention to each other.

How did it get to be this way?

More importantly, what are we going to do about it? What are you going to do about it in your household?
