Children As Gifts

I was a guest recently at a dinner honoring the anniversary of a church.

I was impressed with the spirit of the congregants and the thankful attitude they had towards life. Several of the speakers mentioned activities going on in their church and kept referring to children and the next generation as gifts.

Sometimes you hear people say things like that and the words are simply said to make a nice-sounding speech or to look good in a book. In this case, it was obvious in their manner and enthusiasm that the people speaking at this dinner genuinely felt as their words portrayed.

They also talked about members of their community being extended families and the kids, in effect, feeling like they had several sets of parents. It was inspirational.
