Cell Phone Plan Minute Refunds

Rollover minutes are a great concept. In fact, they should have been part of the cell phone industry right from the beginning.

Don’t use all your minutes and they just get saved for you for the next month. If you go over your minutes, you would of course have to pay the phone company a few cents for each extra minute over your monthly allotment.

That can add up fast, but most people find it reasonable. Here’s the question: If you use less than the allotted minutes, why don’t you get a pro-rated refund? Never mind the rollover. If the theory is that extra minutes cost the cell phone companies more money because you are using their networks more, than you must in fact be costing them less money when you don’t use all the minutes included in your plan!

It only took on company to start the rollover minute revolution, let’s hope one starts the refund minute revolution next., , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Cheap Eyeglasses Update

Remember a while back when I wrote about Zenni and the amazingly inexpensive price of 8 dollars that they charge to order prescription eyeglasses from their website? Last time, I included a link to a consumer report done on a local news station. I just found out that nationally known consumer advocate, media personality, and talk show host Clark Howard recommended using the company. For a blurb on his official website (as well as some contrasting opinions form his fans), check out his site. I’d definitely be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried the company.

I haven’t ordered mine yet because I haven’t gone for an eye exam recently. I figure I might as well get a complete exam first in case I my prescription has changed. As soon as I have the new prescription, I will be taking advantage of such an awesome deal. In fact, I was planning on ordering several pair at those prices. Just for comparison, the last time I purchased glasses, I gote a quote from a national chain for about four hundred dollars for one pair! That was with regular frames too, not some exorbitantly priced designer eyeglass frames. After doing comparison shopping, I was able to buy them from Wal-Mart for about two hundred and fifty dollars for two pairs.

That was a big improvement, obviously. However, the Zenni prices put even Wal-Mart to shame in a major way and that is not easy for any company on the basis of comparing prices. When it comes to order from Zenni Optical, I like the style below, but at their bargain basement price level, I’m actually planning on ordering several pairs in different styles.

Cell Phone Headsets Review

Can anyone hear anyone now? If not, cell phone headsets just might be to blame.

A couple years a go, I went through an annoying period dealing with inadequately made and poorly performing cell phone headsets. I had differetn brands and they were absolutely terrible. The people on the other end complained constantly about the sound quality. Though I could never adjust the microphone loud enough, they sounded fine on my end. I could live with the occasional low volume, but my problem was that they just stopped working.

It would either be that the mic failed and the person on the other end suddenly couldn’t hear my anymore or the earpiece stopped transmitting anything. I had bought two different brands to which this happened. Then I wrote to the manufacturers for replacements. In both cases, the replacements failed also. That is completely unacceptable.

I’m, not mentioning the other two brands because I am not giving them any free publicity. Finally, I found a decent headset that has great volume control and everyone I talk to says it sounds like I am on a regular phone.

This good one is a Plantronics Deluxe Universal Headset. Plantronics is the most popular kind (indeed the only kind I’ve ever seen in many offices I’ve worked in) of headset used in offices and call centers so it only makes sense that they would make a decent product for cell phones as well.

What has your experience been with cell phone headsets? Please share your review.

Rating Used Cars

There isn’t usually much to be had in a discussion of how to buy used cars, but that site
actually makes it interesting and easy to do your research online.

If you’re like most people online, you love to share your opinion. Auto123.com also gives you the chance to share your opinion by rating your car. I think it’s great that they are providing a place in which we can all share information about our experiences with our vehicles and help other people decide whether they should get those same brands and models in the used car market.

Not that I can afford one, but I will definitely have to spend more time on the site checking out the reviews for a Lexus. I remember when that model was first introduced when I was a new driver and only wished the price tag was within my range.

Now is a good time to participate on the site because they are currently hosting a contest for those who rate their cars. Contest prizes included a trip to Mexico, a trip to the Daytona 500, and a travel gift certificate worth 5K! Get rating and enjoy the site!, , , , ,

Crazy Places Cell Phones End Up

The smaller the cell phones get, the easier they are to misplace which means it is easier for them to end up in crazy places.

As someone who once dealth with cell phones in a corporate level (which means thousands of units and cell phone lines), I’ve heard plenty of hard-to believe stories.

I’ve heard of cell phones ending up in various places including rolling under truck tires, landing in trash cans, splashing into toilets, and even one falling over the side of the rail on a boat.

However, thank goodness, I never had to deal with one I read about in a news story. The article explained how a guy forced his girlfriend to swallow a cell phone! Surgeons had to remove it!

Where’s the craziest place your cell phone (or that of someone you know?) ended up?, , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Inspirational Poems Inspiring Poetry Writing A Poem

For some reason, when kids study poetry in school, it is often presented as a lost art – a form of writing that isn’t practiced or appreciated in our modern society. That simply isn’t true. While one may not find poerty in the pages of national news magazines or newspapers as may have been the case a hundred years ago, it is still with us in three obvious ways.

In addition to the poetry that people write and share on their own websites, there are countless song lyrics written in rhyme (and sometimes with metaphors and other traditional poetic devices), recorded, and distributed every year.

Another form of poertry that is still with us and is indeed popular these days as it ever was is inspirational poetry. Besides verses one might find on greeting cards, there are still entire books of new inspirational poems being published. In fact, I was just looking at a website for a new book with modern inspirational poetry. The author wrote the book of inspirational poems to cause the readers to reflect on life and to renew the spirits of readers who are having a hard time dealing with things in their personal lives or just dealing with the many negative things that happen the world around all of us everyday. I think it’s a good idea for all of us to take a step by and put things in their proper perspective. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day stresses of life and forget its overall purpose.

Parents need to lead by example in this area. A good way to start would be to find meaningful writing and share it with their kids. It would be nice to start a family tradition in which the parents and the kids take turns discovering something that the other one finds important and poignant., , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Cell Phone Batteries

Is a dead cell phone battery a plausiable excuse these days?

Remember the days when kids and teenager’s excuses for not calling home were that they couldn’t find a phone anywhere or they didn’t have change to use a payphone? Well, those days a re long gone – do you know any kids who leave home without a cell phone nowadays?

Yet, there is one obstacle to their always-on, ever connected lives – the dreaded dead cell phone battery. It may be a real reason or just a convenient excuse, but either way, most parents would accept the dead cell phone battery as a reason for their kids not checking in provided it is a one time event.

Isn’t it amazing that with all the billions of dollars of technology behind the entire cellular phone grid, you can easily be locked out of the system by a mere dead battery?

Forgot your car charger before you left on that long road trip? You’re out of luck. Is the battery getting old and won’t hold a charge anymore? It might as well be 1985 because you won’t be using that cell phone.

What’s the worst time and/or place that your phone battery died?

· Was your boyfriend just about to propose long distance?
· Did your wife warn you not to dare to hang up on her again?
· Were you right in the middle of a multi-million dollar sales deal?
· Were you on the phone with AAA, just about to tell them where your car was broken down?

Design A Logo For Your Child’s Business

I had done a series of blog entries along time ago about child entrepreneurs. Of course, computer and the Internet make it easier than ever for enterprising kids to start, run, and advertise their own little businesses.

How excited would your kids be if you helped them design a logo online that they could then use on business cards, websites, signs, etc.?

Visit that link and you’ll find a step-by-step online logo designer. It is so simple that even young kids can do it by themselves with your supervision. You just type in the name of your company, tagline, or any text you want and then go through successive screens to choose an icon, font, color, and text effect. That’s it! In a matter a few minutes, your kids can create logos for their own businesses or just for fun.

At the end of the process, you can download the logo for about twenty dollars and then save it for when you need it or you can use it for free on any of the printed products sold by Vista Print. Vista has really amazing prices for custom printed items. Your children could easily make signs for their business or print up some business cards and the cost would be so minimal they could afford it with their allowances.

What a great business lesson that would be to have them learn about advertising costs and investing to earn a profit later. Check it out and have fun with it.
