Calories In Dannon Yogurt
Why do these yogurt companies (Dannon & Yoplait) keep disappointing me with their calorie counts?
You may remember that I wrote almost a year ago about Yoplait Yogurt Versus Dannon Yogurt. In that entry, I took Yoplait to task for their advertising implying that Yoplait is such a great weight loss helper when their brand compared quite unfavorably to Dannon in the calorie department, sugar department, and the high fructose corn syrup department, not to mention the lack of ability to contact them through their website since the contact form did not work.
Anyway, let’s fast forward to this week. I got an unpleasant surprise at the grocery store when I picked up the Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt the other day. They are advertising “Great New Taste” on the container. Ok, so far, so good.
Where does that great new taste come from? Glad you asked. How about an increase in sugar content - they’ve now added fructose and a resulting 20 more calories per 6 ounce container! After bragging in their advertising for God knows how long about having “only 60 calories,” they’ve now increased that by a whopping 33% to 80 calories per serving. (A serving is the entire 6 ounce container.)
If you have two containers of Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt every day, that is now an extra 14,600 calories per year. That equals an extra 4.2 pounds of weight in a year! I doubt we’ll be seeing that highlighted in their “lose weight with our yogurt” implication commercials anytime soon.
