Save Jericho Get Involved
Parents, I’ve said it before and it is time to say it again – Jericho is the best show on television that you can watch with your children as a family. Actually, “can watch” doesn’t cover it…”should watch” and “must watch” are more accurate.
I’m not going to go into all the reasons that make Jericho so brilliant as I have covered those before in this blog and I will put a list links at the end of this post so you can explore those entries.
This entry is focused on an immediate call to action – getting involved to save Jericho.
Here’s the background. Jericho was cancelled after its first season ended in the spring of 2007. A massive fan uprising/revolt which involved sending tens of thousands of pounds of nuts to CBS headquarters resulted in the near-impossible – a reversal of the cancellation! Jericho returned to the airwaves with a limited seven episode run this spring (2008). Now,
CBS has cancelled the show again.
It’s time for Jericho fans and viewers of quality television everywhere to stand up, demand to be counted, and help find a new home for this show and its (at least) six million dedicated and passionate viewers.
Carol Barbee, one of Jericho’s executive producers, has given several interviews in which she has directed fans to channel their energy in two ways for the time being. They are:
- to let the studio CBS/Paramount Television (which is not the same as the CBS network) know that you support them finding a new home for the show and will follow it to its new venue
- to let prospective broadcasters, specifically the Sci-Fi channel (as they have already made a deal to reun Jericho repeats), know that you want them to pick up Jericho for another season
Carol Barbee mentioned in the interview that I heard that it was better to write snail mail letters than to use e-mail. I think it certainly couldn’t hurt to do both, but if you have to pick only one, sending the old-fashioned letter shows the executives that someone is willing to put that extra time and energy into supporting the show.
