Room Heaters
I was visiting a friend earlier tonight and it was freezing in his house. Well, actually, it was freezing outside as we were having a snowstorm, but it was uncomfortably cold in the house too.
The heat was only set to sixty-four degrees which would seem downright warm if it was that temperature outside on a February day in our geographical area, but inside it was not comfortable. Another problem was that the house has a tiled kitchen and hardwood floors so there is no insulation that carpeting would otherwise provide. There were drafts coming from all the windows so even though the thermostat was set at sixty-four, I have a feeling that the actual temperature at various locations throughout the house was much lower.
The reason the thermostat is set so low is because he has full electric heat and it ends up costing a monthly fortune to heat the entire two-story house. I sympathize completely since I have also had electric in the past and it is unbelievably costly if not used judiciously.
I told him that he should be using room heaters to bring the temperature in whatever room he is in at a particular time to a reasonable temperature.
Since the house has a beautiful fireplace that is not used, he actually has options beyond the obvious electric space heaters or electric room heaters such as ventless gas logs.
In fact, I am going to share that link with him and maybe the next visit will be a warmer environment.
