What has really changed in the world in the last 25 years? Examining headlines from the 1980’s is like looking in a mirror.

We’ve all heard the cliché, “Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it.” No doubt your high school history teacher said that once or twice every school year while trying to draw a parallel between the lesson you were studying and some event that was happening on the nightly news.

You may be shocked to learn that your high school history teacher was on to something beyond trying to trick you into studying for Friday’s test. (I searched the archives for the period January 1, 1980 through December 31, 1989 and found 523 results.) I expected to find events and people who shaped the world and I did find stories to fit those categories. What I wasn’t expecting was the large number of headlines that reflect exactly what’s going on in our world today.
