On Wednesday, Courtney’s mother said, “Today, I will show you how to make popcorn. First, we’ll put the kernels in the machine. Don’t open the cover until all the kernels have popped.” Courtney did not want to learn how to make popcorn, but she did her best to listen to her mother.

Courtney wondered what would happen if she lifted the lid before all the kernels finished popping. POP! KA-BOOM! POP! It rained fluffy pieces of popcorn all over the kitchen. “It works better if you let the popcorn pop in the machine, not all over the room,” Courtney’s mother said patiently.

Courtney had a terrible time learning how make popcorn. It was her third kitchen disaster.
