Cell Phone Plan Comparisons

One of the most challenging (and let’s face it) aggravating things about dealing with cell phones is deciding which plan is right for you.

“Right” means which one is the most efficient – which one will cover your needs incurring without those dreaded overcharges.   It is practically impossible to keep all the information from several carriers and the details of the options of each plan in your head.  It makes sense to the Internet for help with wireless plan comparison research.

What is great about the site in the link in the previous paragraph is that you are working with a third party.  (I assume if you buy a plan through them, they have some kind of affiliate relationship with the carrier, but because it is a third party, you don’t have to worry that you are being pushed towards a particular plan the way you would be by visiting a carrier’s dedicated site.)  In fact, visiting a particular carrier’s site is only going to give you information on their plans, not allow you to compare among different vendors.

Wirefly makes it easy to plug in information to determine what plans are available in your area and which ones might fit your needs best.  You simply type in how many minutes you use each month and your zip code.  The site also asks how your usage minutes are allocated.  That means it is broken down by percentage as to whether your calls occur during the daytime or on nights and weekends.  They also ask you to specify roaming minutes.I can hardly believe in 2007 cell phone companies are still getting away with charging differently for minutes used at different times of the day.  To me, that is so 1995!  Roaming charges too…is that crazy?  I remember my first phone had an indicator light on it for when the phone was roaming…which of course was two feet outside of the very small area that was considered the home area.  Luckily, cell phone coverage areas are much expanded these days.

In any case, it’s good to know that there is a cell phone rate comparison tool out there to that takes all possible factors into account when helping you determine how to make the most of your cell phone expenditures., , , , , , , , , , ,
