Computer Help Online

One of the most frustrating things about dealing with your computer is the lack of help available.

You would that that you could find adequate computer help from the manufacturer, but good luck with that if your computer is so much as five minutes out of warranty.

One time, I had an issue with a computer and I called the manufacturer. The rep told me that she couldn’t help me because the warranty had expired the previous week. (Way to go with customer service!) She told me it would cost me forty dollars just to ask the question…and of course there was no guarantee that they would be able to diagnose the problem or solve it even if they could figure out what was wrong.

I hung up and went back through my records and found out the, after all that, the computer was actually still IN WARRANTY for another week. In other words, I had purchased it 51 weeks earlier and it was a one year warranty. I called back again, got someone else and offered to fax a copy of the receipts to prove it. That rep was much smarter and offered just help me on the spot with no additional nonsense.

What do you do if you’re computer is out of warranty…turn to your fellow computer users online at sites like TheComputerForums.co.uk where you find people who are more than happy to answer questions and help each other out. In fact, you will find that people who give others assistance with computer issues on forums are often more knowledgeable than the reps in the computer companies’ customer service centers.
