Back From Vacation

Getting back from vacation and getting back into the swing of things is never any fun, is it?

I have been back for several days, but busy doing other things instead of getting back down to business and writing in the blog. Blog writing is really a habit; once you restart the procedure, you can pick up where you left off.

The good news is that I did come up with some inspiration for blog entries even while on vacation.

See, I was thinking of you, my readers, while I was away!

Sydney Australia Vacation

I was on vacation last week.

I was not in Sydney, Australia, though. I was only gone for a week. I think a vacation to Australia would demand more time than a week, considering the travel time to and from the destination as well as the myriad of things to do and see once you arrived in the land down under, as it is called.

Some quick online research gives so many options that travelers staying in Sydney hotels won’t knwo what to first. As with any vacation, it depends on the personality and interest of the vacationers. Those looking for a cultural experience might try the Sydney Opera House while those wanting rest and relaxtion could head for Manly Beach. Animal lovers will find the Taronga Zoo and the Sydney Aquarium to their liking.

People who like scenic water views can stay at Darling Harbour hotels. In fact, this location provides “the best of both worlds” as it is also located a mere five minutes away from a local exhibition center and extensive nightlife options.

Getting a little father away from the main action, but still close enough to be a walkable distance by the more athletic (and easily within reach via train or taxi) is staying in North Sydney hotels. This area is business area favored by large companies so may be ideal for those traveling to the Syndey area on business.

Jericho Episodes Online

Blog fans know that I think families should be watching Jericho on CBS together. It is the very definition of quality television, a point I made in a previous entry last month titled Jericho – The Best TV Show You’re Not Watching.

In checking out the CBS website earlier tonight, I found out that they are now offering every episode of the entire first season online. That means you can watch all 22 episodes for free whenever you want. This is the link to the Jericho episodes and other video content about the show including interviews with the cast, producers and writers.

Many people are reluctant to start watching a show that they haven’t seen even if someone praises it highly. They always feel that they have missed out on something because they haven’t seen every episode. Thanks to the brilliant decision by CBS to make all the episodes from the first season available over the web, you can watch them all without having to pay for or wait for a DVD version.

When Jericho airs on CBS again for its second season, you and your family will be all caught up and ready to see television at its best.

EDIT: The Jericho DVD is now available. Enjoy the show plus the DVD extras:

Creating Your Website

I’ve talked here before about encouraging parents (and all readers) to take the first steps in creating their website and online businesses as a way to earn extra money.

Many people are just overwhelmed when it comes to website design and website marketing. This also applies to small business owners who still haven’t taken the plunge to getting their business online. Some have a single webpage listing their business and hours, but that doesn’t cut it.

No matter what kind of business you have, there is way to increase your business and profits utilizing the Internet. In my area, there is a local pizza place that allows you to place orders over the web, just like some of the big chains. If something as traditional as a cash and carry pizza place can figure out how to market online so can everyone else.

The good news is that you are not alone. If website creation and design scares, you can easily find help (online - where else?) and take the first step. Visit WebsitePros.com and see what they have to offer., , , ,

Blog Review Part 2

This is a continuation of Blog Review .

From the entertainment world, I mentioned some information and provided a look at the trailer of the new Halloween movie, brought up the subject of Family TV Shows and advised parents that the one show on television they should be watching with their kids is Jericho on CBS. The full post is available at Jericho – The Best TV Show You’re Not Watching. I reiterate, you should be watching it every week.

As the month drew to a close, there naturally several articles covering different aspects of the back to school experience including Schoolbook Covers, Admission Essays, and Back To School Tips.

Overall, as you can see, August was a very busy blogging month with a variety of subjects. If you missed any of these topics mentioned in these blog review entries, take a look back now and get all the information you need.

Health Care Education

If you’re interested in health care education (and many people are today as report after report indicates increasing demand and higher wages for workers in all parts of the health care chain), then you need an easy place to start doing your research to find the right program and training to get you on your way.

Normally, search engines are great tools for finding everything and anything you want online. However, sometimes a good list site, portal, or database type of site is what you need. That is definitely the case with the healthcare management degree research you can do on GuideToHealthCareSchools.com.

If you are interested in just about any health care profession short of becoming a doctor, this is the site to you. GuideToHealthCareSchools.com covers everything from Administration (medical office) to X-ray Technician. Overall, there are about fourty five medical programs listed. That’s perfect if you know want to do something in the health field, but you haven’t decided exactly what it is. Once you narrow your field of study, it’s easy to find the available schools in a particular state.

I liked the depth of information about each school. There is more than enough to help surfers decide if they should pursue the school further or move on to another one on the list. Check out the site and it just may inspire you to make a career change.

Blog Review

I know it’s a little late in the new month for this, I should have done a blog review entry on the first or second, but better late than never, as they say.

So many bloggers do reviews of other blogs, but never highlight their own favorite or exceptionally interesting posts from time to time. Here’s an overview of August here on Someone Else’s Kids.

The beginning of the month had a high concentration of Total Transformation information including: Total Transformation Parenting and Total Transformation Course as well as three part entry on the SpongeBob SquarePants Recall. Another entry that parents shouldn’t miss is the shocking statistics mentioned in Teen Car Accidents.

Way To Make More Money At Work

If you work in a bank, financial services company, or insurance company, there may be away for you to qualify for a higher pay level at work – simply by passing the Series 7 exam.

The Series 7 exam qualifies people to handle accounts in various financial areas. A small sampling of the areas include mutual funds and annuities.

I worked in an insurance company that had multiple levels of CSR’s. Those who passed the Series 7 exam were instantly eligible to receive a higher pay rate because they were able to handle additional types of accounts. In fact, callers who had those special account tied to annuities would get routed to a special (and usually shorter) queue in order to talk to the more qualified service reps.

The test is expensive and you want to pass it on the first time, even if your company pays the fees. In order to do that you should take advantage of Series 7 study guides and programs that will prepare you. Visit the site linked above for access to online training including exam prep guides, practice tests, classroom training, and home study material., ,
