Moving To Florida

It fascinates me how many people will say that their dream is to move to Florida, but they have never seriously looked into it.

That’s such a shame because it is so simple to research buying and selling property such as a Florida villa online these days. In fact, the Internet gives you access to check out properties from a remote location in a way never before possible.

If you have been thinking about moving to Florida and putting yourself right in the heart of some of the world’s largest and most-loved theme parks, then take the time to do a little online research and turn that dream into a an actionable goal.

Do You Know Where Your Children Are

Quick, it’s 2 AM. Do you know where your children are?

Even if you answer that you do know where they are at all times, are you sure you are right? What prompted this entry is that last night, at 2 AM, I looked out the window and saw a couple of kids, who were probably about 12 years old, outside riding their bicycles down the street.

I bet if I had asked their parents if they where those kids were, they would have thought they did - and they would have been wrong. , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Online Security

I recently wrote an article about computer security products such as firewalls and anti-virus software to help protect you while you are online. I am continuing the theme of online security today by discussing another aspect of it.

Every time you connect to the Internet, you have a distinct IP address. That IP address can be used to identify where you are geographically. For a quick example visit a site such as http://www.hide-my-ip-address.com/ which will let you press one simple button on your screen and it will perform what is called an IP lookup or reverse IP lookup. It will show you state and city, time zone, and Internet provider!

The company also markets a software product solution to aid in your quest for better online security. You can find out more information about it at this link:

Back To School Tips

Continuing the back to school blog entry series here, I found a site with a whole page full of tips and ideas to make the first day of school a success.

You might want to visit the site and share it with your kids so they will be prepared. There is a lot to say about getting started on the right foot when a whole year of your child’s life is about to be experienced in a particular atmosphere.

Check out the back to school tips here.

Computer Security

Here is a topic that affects readers of all blogs and websites, regardless of the type of site – computer security.

Are you concerned with computer security every time you go online. Some people think one should obsess about every time one connects to the Internet. I think a better idea is to learn about it, compare security prooducts and then take some positive action such as installing a firewall and anti-virus software.

Of course, you do need to keep the software that you’ve chosen up to date, but that’s where your initial research pays off. You won’t have to continually jump from product to product if you choose a good one in the first place.

School Clothes

As I often do on this blog, I’ve decided to create a series of entries around a single topic. Even though this one started while making observations of Back To School sales and ads in July, I’m going to present them to parents just in time to actually put them to use.

Parents often follow the same patterns every year when it comes to buying back to school clothes. They spend their entire clothing budget on clothes to get the kids ready for September and then by January, the kids are already starting to outgrow the clothes.

This year, do it differently. Buy fewer garments now and put aside some of the money. Then do a separate shopping trip for school clothes in the winter. That way you will have school clothes that fit the kids better all year around and also provide them with something new just as other items are starting to get worn out.

Admission Essays

Having edited some college admission essays myself through my editing service, I am well aware that many people out there need help with their essays.

Some people may see it as unfair that admission offices put so much stick in college admission essays. They point out that the facts presented about the applicant in the essay itself should count more than the writing style and the format.

They are overlooking one crucial fact. A huge percentage of work (and therefore evaluation of learning) in college is done in the form of writing such as through essay tests and term papers. Since the admissions essay gives the college representatives a sample of the level of one’s writing ability, it also gives them one predictor of how successful the student will be.

Therefore, having an excellent essay for a college or graduate school application is essential and well worth the cost of having someone else proofread it and help your child improve it.

Schoolbook Covers

Since I recently wrote about back to school issues, it got me thinking about a way for parents to save money on back to school supplies.

Teachers will insist on book covers because they protect the books. Be thankful, as that ultimately protects all the taxpayers’ money by making the books last longer.

When it comes to covering schoolbooks, though, parents can have their kids do it for free. Though it might be fun to buy book covers at the store with the latest superhero or TV heartthrob on them, it is absolutely unnecessary. Cover your children’s books for free with old paper bags and you will be saving money and recycling at the same time.
