Quality Time And Quantity Time

Quality Time And Quantity Time

How do you define “quality time?” It was probably about twenty years ago when magazine articles started throwing around the term “quality time” which was used as to distinguish time parents spend with children when they were focused on each other as opposed to just being together while focused on something else.

That was one definition anyway. Others defined it as time spent by divorced parents when they saw their kids on weekends. I always thought that sounded a little insulting since it implied that the “quantity time” of living everyday lives when the custodial parents interacted with their children wasn’t important.

In all the debate about these things over the years, did anyone bother to ask the children how they felt about the time and if they would prefer supposed quality time over quantity time?
