Jericho – The Best TV Show You’re Not Watching

In the recent entry titled Family TV Shows, I asked parents to list some TV shows they feel comfortable watching with their families. I will be looking forward to seeing some responses on that.

In the meantime, I will make my own suggestion. You and your family should be watching Jericho on CBS.

This summer, Jericho achieved a feat almost unheard of in network television. CBS reversed its decision to cancel the show after a coordinated fan effort to revive the show resulted in tens of thousands of peanuts being sent to CBS headquarters. (Peanuts were used because they related to a line of a dialogue used in the season finale.)

The reason you should watch it with your family is because of the way the show handles its topic – how the people in a small Kansas town interact and struggle to survive after a nuclear attack on many cities throughout the country. Very few television shows manage to be equally thought provoking and entertaining at all times. Jericho seems to do so effortlessly which tells me that the entire cast and crew work so hard behind the scenes that you would never believe their level of effort unless you witnessed it first hand.

I have seen every episode of the show multiple times and assure you it is absolutely the pinnacle of quality television.

EDIT: The Jericho DVD is now available. Enjoy the show plus the DVD extras:
