The Police Reunion Tour

Readers know I love the 80’s so much I recently devoted an entry to the 101 ways to know if you’re from the 1980’s.

Well, here’s another way: You are a fan of the group The Police and you are totally psyched about the new 2007 The Police reunion tour.

The classic Police song for me is Every Breath You Take. As soon as you hear or read the title, don’t you start singing it out loud? I bet the lyrics come to mind immediately. It’s such a great song. It tells a story, evokes a feeling and let’s face it - it’s a combination of haunting ideas and romantic ideas all at the same time. I remember listening to some countdown show on New Year’s Eve as 1989 was changing into 1990 and they were doing the top songs of the decade. Every Breath You Take was the # 1 song!

If you thought you would never get to see The Police in concert again, guess what? They are back with a new CD and concert tour. Let me tell you, if I had that CD, it would immediately go in my car and be played every day. I know a lot of other people feel the same way. I checked the band’s official homepage and the concert venues. Many of them are already sold out for performances months in the future. They are huge venues too. I noticed Madison Square Garden, the Staples Center and Fenway Park as a few of the major sold out stadiums.

New Blog Categories

Regular readers will notice another change as part of the blog redesign. I have finally added categories. In the past, all the entries were in one category, which was called “uncategorized.” That hardly shows any creativity, I know. It stemmed from the fact that I had not set up the blog myself originally.

Eventually, it was under my control, but it seemed like too much of a pain to go back and re-categorize every entry. When it became necessary to rebuild the whole blog anyway last week, I figured I might as well fix that aspect of it as well.

Please enjoy the new categories as a way to browse around the blog and get right to the type of information you want.

Get Motivated

Everything else is handled with software and through computers these days, so why not motivation too?

You can get a free copy of some motivation software by visiting that link. The site explains the program in greater detail, but this is a quick summary. You load in motivational messages that you want to see at a regular intervals and then you let the software do the hard work of displaying and rotating the various messages. They’re like having your very own coach whispering just what you need to hear when you need to hear it.

The software is free so try it out and see what kind of results you can achieve with it.,

How To Know You’re Getting Old

It’s funny that this topic should come up since I just wrote an entry the other day about getting a bird feeder for your backyard.

I was talking with a friend and she mentioned that she knew she was getting old because she was suddenly interested in things that years ago her mother would have pointed out and in which she would have thought weren’t worthy of her attention.

The case in point was that she was on her way into her apartment and she stopped to notice a couple birds working on building a nest. She said she watched them for about 45 minutes!

Has something like this happened to you? Have you suddenly become interested in things that previously you would have thought would only be interesting to your parents?

Celebrity Access

Have you ever wondered how your favorite university finds and books celebrity speakers for graduation ceremonies or why some smaller cities and towns attract well known authors, lecturers, and performers to what seems to you to be local events that these famous people should probably not even know exist?

Thanks to companies like InternationalSpeakers.com, your organization can get access to celebrity speakers too! If you are the one who brings them to your organization, your peers may think of you as a celebrity too.

The website makes it easy to search for speakers based on their area of expertise and the price it costs to hire the speaker. If this is the first time that you are considering hiring a speaker through a bureau, the website has a frequently asked questions page that will walk through the process.,

Rainy Day Activity

We had a terrible rainstorm the other day at my house. It was the kind that turns the entire sky black and makes it look like night outside even though it is daytime. In fact, it was so dark that lights with automatic sensors actually came on.

It got me thinking that if the kids were cooped up in the house, you could get them to plan for the next sunny day by coming up with a list of activities and a schedule. This will keep them busy during the rainy day and give you a ready made plan for the next sunny day when they start saying, “I’m bored!”

Extend the idea by having them draw pictures of the activities they will do outside as well as finding the stuff they will need, such as digging the old baseballs out of the back of the storage room., , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Fun Activity For Kids

A fun and relatively cheap activity you can get your kids involved in is backyard birdwatching.

You can buy an inexpensive bird feeder for about five or six dollars at a department store and set it up in your backyard or garden area. You can buy a bag of birdseed fo a a couple dollars or spend eight or ten dollars for a a much larger bag that will last much longer.

Let the kids help decide were to place the feeder. Then have them watch the feeder over a period of a week or two and record the different types of birds that start to show up. You can turn the whole thing into a real learning experience by having the kids look research the birds they’ve outside on the Internet.
