Airsoft is a 1:1 scale replica of firearms that fires 6 MM plastic BB pellets which are powered by compressed air. The sport of Airsoft has actually been around since the early 1980’s where it originated in Japan and then made its way throughout Asia. It did not arrive in the United States until the mid 1990’s.

Because Airsoft Guns are so close to the real ones in many aspects, the company manufactures them with a safety orange muzzle tip which is required by Federal law. In fact, removing that tip is a legal violation.

I recently saw something on television that compared Airsoft to actual firearms visually and they were hard to distinguish. The TV reporter was reminding people not to remove or alter the safety tip for their own protection as law enforcement officials could mistake the Airsoft replica for the real thing if the safety tip is not immediately visible.

Parents, please make sure if your children or teens have these items, they leave the safety tip intact.
